Jim has a background in animal behavior, and the physiology of temperature regulation in ectotherms (reptiles and insects). He studied insect physiology in the Namib Desert of Southwest Africa for two years. Current interests include a long-term study of temperature regulation in Mojave rattlesnakes; development of a website on flowers of the area; and improving the Clark College Natural History Museum insect collection. He spends every summer in the desert herping, botanizing, rock collecting, insect collecting, birding, star gazing, and studying the history of native American tribes.
